Discretix Secures Mobile Content on HTC Phones

Discretix OMA DRM Client Already in Deployment on Selected HTC Models

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sep 14, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) – Discretix, the leading global provider of embedded security solutions, announced today that HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile phones, has selected Discretix to deliver OMA DRM (Digital Rights Management) capability in HTC's smartphones. The solution, already in deployment, is protecting all forms of premium content according to the latest OMA standards.

The latest DRM specification from the Open Mobile Alliance standards body, adds several new features that reflect the changing needs of content usage. Most prominent are subscription based services as well as a metering capability that allows for royalty collection based on actual content usage. OMA DRM also adds support for user-editable metadata as well as inclusion of content issuer-defined metadata such as artist, title and genre information.

Taiwan-based HTC is one of the fastest-growing companies in the mobile sector. Its branded smartphones run both the Android and Microsoft Windows Mobile operating systems and are renowned for their innovation and advanced multimedia capabilities. Sold in over 100 countries around the world, HTC phones are marketed by some of the world's largest mobile operators including Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Cingular, Verizon, Sprint and NTT DoCoMo.

OMA DRM enables some of the world's largest mobile operators and content providers to pursue sophisticated business models such as subscription and streaming, as mobile content and its associated DRM requirements move away from basic content protection. The new specification supports metering, PC sideloading, content differentiation and other features opening new doors for everyone, from consumers and content issuers to operators and handset OEMs.

"Discretix is pleased to extend our relationship with HTC, a world leader in smartphone innovation and one of the most respected handset manufacturers in Asia," said Raanan Tzemach, EVP Content Protection BU manager for Discretix.
