In order to secure the 3G IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), including Instant Messaging (IM), Voice over IP (VoIP), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) and others, a secure IPSec/IKE solution is required on the mobile device. This mechanism has been defined and termed by 3GPP as ipsec-3gpp.
